3 a.m.

For the past week or so we've heard a very quick loud "CHIRP!" we all know that noise all too well.... The smoke detector. Well it would chirp then not do it again for a couple days. I let it be cause who wants to go track down a 9 volt battery. I don't know about any one else but we never seem to have a spare just laying around. Apparently the way our smoke detectors are set up is it gives you a little warning and they are spread out. As the battery gets lower the warning "CHIRP!" gets more frequent. Of course it had to get unbearable at 3 a.m. Steve was sleeping through it so I pulled myself out of bed and rummaged around for a battery.

Most of the time we don't have one so we just take the smoke detector down so it shuts up and tell ourselves we'll get one the next day. Then we go back to bed and lay awake all night because we are convinced THIS is the night the house will burn down just because we didn't have that 1 smoke detector. I know no one else does this riiiiight?

The miracle of all miracles! We had a 9 volt, new in the package, and it was the smoke detector downstairs so all I needed was a chair and not the huge ladder for the one on the highest point of our vaulted ceiling. It was very easy to just pop in the battery, put the chair away and collapse back into bed. However, I had taken more than 10 steps and I was pretty awake. Not 2 minutes later Steve's phone made some weird chime noise (not the alarm). Oh, don't worry he woke up for that, picked up his phone, looked at it, and put it back down. But no, he didn't wake up for the obnoxious "CHIRP!" go figure...

Haha! Love it! You are such a nice wife. I would have waken him up & made him do it. :)
