So I'm done documenting in journals so I can share, finally!
T.K's Birthday
T.K. had a great birthday. For weeks he talked about going to Chuck E. Cheese and the store. The store is what he looked forward to the most. Grandma and Granny always take the boys to the store to pick a toy. They love it. When Brayden went in August T.K. wanted to go so that's when it started. Every day he would ask me if Grandma was going to come today.
The night before his birthday I asked him what he wanted for breakfast. I said "you can have pancakes, that would be yummy." He said "No I want something super awesome. I want macaroni and cheese." Sure enough the next morning he still wanted macaroni and cheese with some apple slices.
That day Granny and Papa came in. T.K. had gone on a field trip with his preschool. When he got back Granny, Papa, and I were waiting to greet him with chocolate cupcakes in hand to share (chocolate with chocolate frosting, his choice of course). We went to the park to eat our treats and found out Grandma Day was on her way with a happy meal and his present. After lunch he had a little birthday nap. Then Granny and Papa took him to the store. Then it was off to Chuck E. Cheese, the highlight of the day.
At first he was a little overwhelmed by all the lights and noise. The only thing that he never got use to was the band of animated animals, he wouldn't even go in the room they were in. He played lots of games and got lots of tickets. We got to eat pizza and he got to open his presents. When he got to buy his prizes he was so excited. Brayden had a blast too. I may have shot myself in the foot with this cause I can see them wanting Chuck E. Cheese for every birthday. Although I wouldn't mind I had lots of fun too :)
When we went home we had more chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Such a good day for a 4-year-old!
Night Time Trauma
The night of T.K's birthday I was ready for some sleep. It would just be a perfect ending of a perfect day, a great night's sleep. YEAH RIGHT! Kian woke up at around 1 a.m. I went in to check on him and try to calm him back down, no such luck. I had to get up again. The third time (3 a.m.)I was admittedly frustrated and super sleepy, BUT because I'm a hopelessly devoted mother I got up anyway. On my way to his room my toe got caught up on some pants and pain like I have never felt filled my body from the toes up. Thankfully Steve got up, not because of the noise or the cursing , but because he too is a hopelessly devoted husband and father.
"I think I just broke my freaking toe." I told him. I looked at it in the light and something defiantly wasn't right about the way to toe was pointed. "Whatever" I said I just want to sleep.
"Do I need to take you to the Emergency Room?" He asked.
"For a broken toe? Seriously?" I said.
We taped it and I went about hobbling as best I could for the next week. I finally went to the Doctor and got an X-ray. Sure enough it's broken. Here is a question for you: Why do things hurt so much worse once you know the truth. I had been fine and the second I saw the broken bone I turned into a wus. I was told to take it easy, no impact activity for 3 weeks, not good news for the weight loss I've been enjoying but oh well. That's what I get for being a good mom.
Swine FluBrayden came home from school one day super whiny and complaining that I was walking too fast. "How can I be walking too fast I have a broken toe?!" I said. I had been talking to a friend while we were waiting for the kids to get there and she said there were 9 kids out from 1 class with the Swine Flu. "Oh sh!t" was my exact thought. You see he has asthma so he is high risk and things like this are always harder on him than a normal person. So when Brayden came home acting like that I took him temperature and sure enough 102. I called the Doctor in tears. They were able to get me in later that afternoon.
I stopped at the Health Dept. So I could get the FluMist for T.K. but they wouldn't give it to him because he had been exposed and probably already had it. I was also berated because I was bringing my sick child out in public. So excuse me for trying to do the right thing!
We got to the doctor and they did a strep test and made him blow his nose into a cup. We got the results back the next morning and it was confirmed, H1N1, a.k.a Swine Flu a.k.a Hamthrax, super awesome! They called in some TamiFlu right away. When I went to go pick it up they told me they were out. Kay- I don't know if its just me but don't you think that's something they should call and let you know so you can make other arrangements? They called around (while I'm sitting in the car freaking out) and found some at another pharmacy but still it was stressful.

Picture this: I'm speeding to get to the pharmacy, kind of daring anyone to pull me over. I think it would have been a scene. All three kids in their pajamas, no shoes, and Brayden wearing his little paper mask. "Oh officer, really you want me to open my window exposing you to the plague?! Sure while I'm at it I'll just lick the pen you gave me to sign the ticket! Have a nice Swine Flu!" Luckily there were no incidents like that.
We were instructed to stay inside for 7 days. On day 2 Kian started with the fever. I called and was able to get TamiFlu for him. It seemed to help a lot. The worst thing was the cabin fever. I tried to keep everyone happy. I allowed quite a bit of TV watching. Steve was amazingly supportive.
I was able to get the FluMist for T.K. Steve and I haven't been able to get vaccinated because of the shortage. I think I may have "IT" though because today I started with a fever and I feel like I've been hit by a truck. Steve is still doing ok, but I kind of wish he would get it too just so I know we all have it and be done with it!
